Problem running Mortgage Wizard Plus

December 31, 2004 - Recently a few Mortgage Wizard Plus users were not able to run Mortgage Wizard Plus.

Are you getting this error message?

The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

Most likely cause:

File Autoexec.nt in C:\Windows\System32\ in Windows XP is missing or corrupted. Both the 16 bit and 32 bit version of Mortgage Wizard Plus require this file to be present.

The corrective action is:

Copy file C:\Windows\Repair\Autoexec.NT and paste in your C:\Windows\System32\ folder.

Note: It is not known why the file Autoexec.nt in your C:\Windows\System32\ folder got deleted or corrupted. It may be the result of a virus, a bogus spyware cleaner or something else. If anybody has an idea what deletes or corrupts Autoexec.nt, please report to support@mw-plus.com. Thank you for doing this.
For additional information on the above mentioned Error message, go to Google and search for "autoexec.nt".

February 8, 2005 - Although the copy and paste solution seems to generally work, it did not do the trick for mr. JP, a Mortgage Wizard Plus user. He sent me the following:

"Go to www.visualtour.com/downloads/ and download the XP_Fix.exe file. I got this info from the Google site you mentioned “Autoexec.nt”. It sure works and I now have it on my desktop to use as required in the future. The problem can be caused by spyware that is corrupting or deleting these files so running adaware before fixing the problem would be advisable."

He has also discovered the following:

"I found a folder "\program files\admanager" that contained 2 exe files and 1 dll. These were loaded upon startup and deleted the autoexec.nt file every time I booted."

Most likely cause:

Configuration file mw.cfg located in your Mortgage Wizard Plus folder is corrupted.

The corrective action is:

Don't worry about having deleted mw.cfg. A new mw.cfg will be created when you exit Mortgage Wzard Plus.

Note: Your configuration file stores your name (scrambled), authorization code (scrambled) and default or preferred/last setting of: header info, frequency of payment, country, password for locking rows, screen position, screen size, amortization schedule font size, amortization schedule column width, calculation mode, print options, logo. etc. Please write down your authorization code or make a backup of configuration file mw.cfg

All other problems are also likely due to a corrupted mw.cfg file (see above). If this does not solve the problem, please request help from support@mw-plus.com
